SERVICES

Every service is performed by hand in our Phoenix workshop. No shortcuts. No assembly-line work. Your instrument gets the attention it deserves.

01
Setup & Intonation

Full professional setup including neck relief, action, intonation, pickup height, nut slot check and lubrication, fretboard conditioning, and hardware tightening. Every setup includes a fret sprout inspection and dressing — dry Arizona air causes fret ends to protrude beyond the fretboard edge over time. Your bass will feel as good as it plays.

Starting at $75
02
Fret Level & Crown

Eliminate fret buzz and dead spots with a full fret level, crown, and polish. Includes setup. Transforms a frustrating instrument into one that plays effortlessly up and down the entire neck.

Starting at $120
03
Refret

Complete fret replacement with your choice of fret wire — vintage, medium jumbo, jumbo nickel, or stainless steel. Includes fret level, crown, polish, and full setup.

Starting at $280
04
Electronics Repair

Scratchy pots, crackling jacks, dead pickups, cold solder joints. Full electronics diagnosis and repair. Active and passive systems. Most common issues resolved same session.

Starting at $45
05
Pickup Install

Professional pickup installation with full soldering, shielding, and setup. Passive and active systems including EMG, Seymour Duncan, Bare Knuckle, Nordstrand, and more.

Starting at $65
06
Bone Nut Replacement

Custom fit bone nut cut from blank to your string gauge and playing style. Replaces plastic factory nut for improved tone, tuning stability, and feel. Straight headstock instruments start at $85. Angled headstock instruments with glued nuts are quoted individually.

Starting at $85 — add-on
07
Hot Rod Upgrades

Custom Builds

Handbuilt custom bass guitars from raw blanks. Original designs — not copies. You choose the tonewoods, hardware, electronics, and finish. Built to a signed specification sheet. Built to last.

Starting at $2,500
We don't take jobs we can't do well.

Kaldera Guitars Capri Orange Custom Build

ABOUT KALDERA

Kris has been playing music for 25 years. He studied music theory and performance in college and spent his career in sales — building something for someone else. Kaldera Guitars is built for him.

The interest in building started with furniture. It moved to guitars and basses because the craft connects directly to the music. Every instrument that comes through the shop gets a full evaluation, honest assessment, and meticulous work. Bass is the specialty — from $75 setups to boutique custom builds using exotic tonewoods and premium hardware.

The long term vision is original design. Not J bass copies. Not P bass copies. Instruments that are unmistakably their own — fine instruments that push the boundaries of what a bass can be.

FAQ

What is your turnaround time? +
Standard repairs and setups are typically completed in 3–5 business days. Complex work such as refrets or electronics overhauls may take 5–7 days. Custom builds are quoted individually with a realistic timeline agreed before starting.
Do you work on guitars as well as basses? +
Bass is our specialty and primary focus. We do accept guitar work for setups, fret polishing, and basic electronics — but our expertise and passion is in bass guitar specifically.
What does a setup include? +
A full setup includes neck relief adjustment, action adjustment at the bridge, intonation check and correction, pickup height optimization, nut slot check and lubrication, fret sprout inspection and dressing, fretboard conditioning, hardware tightening, and a final playability check. We set up to your preferred string gauge.
What is fret sprout and why does it matter in Arizona? +
Fret sprout happens when dry air causes the wood in a neck to shrink, causing the fret ends to protrude beyond the fretboard edge. The result is sharp fret ends that catch on your hand. Phoenix's desert climate accelerates this more than almost anywhere else in the country. We inspect and dress fret sprout on every setup as standard.
What is a hot rod upgrade? +
A hot rod upgrade transforms a good production instrument into something special. This could mean boutique pickup installation, a Hipshot hardware swap, an active preamp install, a bone nut replacement, or a full top-to-bottom refurbishment. Every hot rod job is unique — contact us with your instrument and goals.
Do you require a deposit for custom builds? +
No deposit required. Every custom build starts with a signed specification sheet agreed by both parties before any materials are ordered. We build from a position of trust. Custom builds start at $2,500 — contact us to start the conversation.
